My life has a superb cast, but I can't figure out the plot.
I am just a grandmother with two great kids who still like to hang out with me and three beautiful grandchildren that keep me busy and smiling all the time but in the end, I'm a coal Miners granddaughter and great granddaughter and like those before me.. I'm a survivor ...
My father worked for the mines... His father worked in the mines ..my mothers father worked in the mines..his father worked in the mines and my grandmothers father worked in the mines and her mothers father worked in the mines. Like Loretta Lynn..I"m proud to be a Coal Miners great great granddaughter. I come from a family of Hard workers that survived many adverse conditions . We were poor by most standards but raised to be respectful , honest and hard working. As I look over my Family Tree, I realize that it has branched out in all kinds of directions, taking us further and further from the Creek we called home..
We are more than we were and that is thanks to the roots of our family that are buried deep in the Soil of Appalachia and the blood lines that gave us what it takes to survive and to keep climbing ever higher.
It is recorded that Thomas Carr was a Flatboat Builder that brought his family to the Kanawha Valley..in the course of time..He had three sons that volunteered
in the 7th Regiment, West Virginia Cavalry of the Union Army. It is even possible that Thomas himself was a soldier at that time..At one point, family members worked for the Salt mines in Malden...then took to the Coal Mines of Cabin Creek. Clear indications that these were hard working men with strong convictions .
Today as I watch my children live their dreams..I can't help but think how proud Thomas Carr would be know that his family has lived on..becoming well educated, productive, talented and caring members of society.
